A Fruitful Partnership with Ricardo Engineering

Earlier in the term Three Dimensional Design BTEC students attended the annual Ricardo Rocket Car Competition. Employees of the company compete to design and build a vehicle to be propelled down the Ricardo test track by a small yet powerful rocket. The winner is decided by which vehicle covers the most distance.

The Sir Robert Woodard students were invited back for a second year running, and spent the week’s prior designing, manufacturing and testing their vehicles, with some impressive results. Though unfortunately, on the day, the employees of Ricardo manufactured vehicles that could cover a larger distance. Not all was lost though, the students walked away with an ‘Artistic Merit’ award for their efforts, and are already thinking about improvements they will make for the 2014 competition.

Throughout the year Sir Robert Woodard Academy students will be invited to attend various master classes and career talks, kindly delivered by Ricardo Engineering.
