Woodard Academies Trust appoints Carol-Anne Alcock as Director of School Improvement and seeks an independent member for its Education Committee

Woodard Academies Trust has appointed Carol-Anne Alcock as its new Director of School Improvement.  She will take up post immediately.    

Hardip Begol, CEO said: “Improving outcomes for pupils is the Trust’s highest priority.  In our new strategy we identified the appointment of a Director of School Improvement, to strengthen our improvement capacity and capability, as an essential early action.  I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve secured Carol-Anne to this position with her impressive record of leading school improvement to transform the lives of young people.   As a Trust, we want to recruit, retain and develop the best people and this is demonstrated by Carol-Anne’s appointment, which will be key to our future success.

Carol-Anne Alcock said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the Trust as it sets a clear strategy and direction for improvement.  I have spent my whole career pursuing educational excellence and I want to use my experience to work with my new colleagues to improve teaching and learning so that pupils achieve success.”        

The Trust is also seeking a new independent member for its Education Committee, which is responsible for reporting to the Board on the education and safeguarding work of the Trust.  The Education Committee is chaired by Margaret Holman, former headteacher of Bishop Stopford School, Kettering (2001-18), seeing it through two Ofsted inspections that rated it outstanding.  She was also one of the longest serving National Leaders of Education (2006-2018).    

Margaret Holman said: “We are looking for an independent member for the Trust’s Education Committee to support it in holding the executive to account for delivering educational outcomes and securing effective safeguarding.  A credible educational leader, with particular expertise in school-centred initial teaching training, would complement the existing skills and expertise on the Committee.”

Carol-Anne Alcock Biography – Carol-Anne has extensive experience in leading the establishment of schools and school improvement.  She led Westside School, Hammersmith from 2017-19 to become the first alternative provision school to achieve outstanding under the new Ofsted inspection framework.    

Carol-Anne joined the Harris Federation in 2009 and was the founding Principal of Harris Academy Purley which was rated Ofsted outstanding after 28 months in 2011.  As an Executive Principal, she established a new free school Harris Invictus Academy, Croydon in 2014, which was rated Ofsted outstanding in its first inspection in 2016, and led Harris Primary Free School and Harris Academy Peckham.

Carol-Anne started her career as a mathematics teacher in Southern Africa and was part of London Challenge from 2006-09 supporting school improvement.
