Woodard Academies Trust appoints Ruth Ashbee as its new Trust Lead for Curriculum and Continuing Professional Development

Posted on: 30th Mar 2021

RuthRuth Ashbee is a senior leader and leading thinker in education, specialising in curriculum, teaching and learning, school culture and leadership. Ruth’s work has been instrumental in the transformation of curriculum thinking and practice in countless schools, and her forthcoming book “Curriculum: Theory, Culture and the Subject Specialisms” is eagerly anticipated by teachers and school leaders nationwide, and “shows Ashbee to be to curriculum what Lemov is to pedagogy and Willingham is to cognitive science”.

Hardip Begol, CEO of the Trust said: “Ruth’s insight, drive, and passionate commitment to an ambitious education for all students, regardless of their background, will be a great asset in this exciting period for the Trust.  We are determined that the Trust adds value to the work of our schools on curriculum design and effective CPD practice - the appointment of Ruth will ensure this happens.  We are now recruiting four new Trust Subject Leads in English and literacy, mathematics, science and modern foreign languages and would welcome applications from outstanding practitioners who want to work in a growing and expert school improvement team. ”

Ruth has worked in state comprehensives in challenging circumstances for her entire career.  After training with the Institute of Education, Ruth began as an NQT in East London, where she taught for four years, before moving to work in Telford.
